I recently received an email from a DC who was concerned because an attorney had brazenly informed him that he contacted the patient’s insurance company and requested that the med pay checks for billing by the DC be sent to the attorney’s office. 

The attorney was depositing them into his trust account and would, no doubt, be using that tactic to negotiate the DC’s bill when the case resolved. That, I explained to him, is fraud. Together we worked on putting a letter together to the attorney explaining that med pay is for medical payments only and it would be fraudulent for the attorney or the client to receive any of that money. I’ll let the good doctor explain what happened next…
