Keonni, 29 years old, was driving west on Roscoe when Mercuryâs insured made a sudden left turn at Winnetka Ave.
Keonni was diagnosed with an L3-L4 facet injury. She underwent three months of chiropractic care and two weeks of acupuncture. She could not work her normal hours, resulting in lost earnings. She also received two sets of radiofrequency ablations, 18 months apart.
Defendant blamed the victim, claiming Keonni ran the red light. Mercury also claimed all she needed was chiropractic care and should receive from the jury only $0 to $2,000 in compensation. The chiropractic and acupuncture bills were close to $5,000.
The jury disagreed. They awarded Keonni $74,684.

PRACTICE TIPS
- PI cases can go bad unless the liability is clear. Left turn cases are "goodâ cases 90% of the time.
