When IME doctors misrepresent

Dr. Gary Lewkovich recently examined the faulty grounds many IME [insurance doctors] use for criticizing care.

Examples of attacking the practitioners work include:

✓   Denial of passive modality care after 30 days.
✓   Denial of payment after 18 visits based on the Official Disability Guidelines.
✓   Denial for a diagnosed cervical radiculopathy based on the same guidelines.

These and other examples are not credible, ethical or reasonable. Sadly, too many insurance doctors are intentionally misreading the literature to attack honest diagnosis and treatment protocols.

Grading Cervical Injuries

Each victim's neck pain is unique. Quality doctors strive to offer the best diagnosis based on the evidence.

Given the high rate of serious cervical injuries in motor vehicle collisions we encourage the use of a comprehensive classification system. Grading the severity of injuries is crucial. For example one system offers 6 grades:



  0. Normal disc
  I. Slight - disc desiccation without disc space narrowing.

  II. Slight to moderate - desiccation with disc space narrowing or slight disc bulging.
  III. Moderate - moderate size disc bulging or Small central disc herniation effacing the Thecal sac.
  IV. Moderate to severe - poSteromedial disc herniation effacing the thesal sac.
  V. V. Severe - Extended disc herniation.
