Lewkovich: Useful Analogies Toward Describing Soft Tissue Injuries
[part one]

How ligaments, once overstretched, are never quite the same.

Answer: Obtain one of the plastic can holders [six pack rings] with the cans of soda still in their yokes. Show how once a can is removed from its holder, the plastic is now overstretched and can no long do its job.

How head posture can dramatically stress the injured tissues of an injured neck and upper back.

Answer: Hold a 10 lbs. bowling ball in your out-stretched arms, with elbows bent at 90 degrees, pointing straight upwards. Now bring the bowling ball 3 inches forward. Note the significantly increased difficulty of holding the ball in the second position.

How uncorrected spinal dysfunction leads to premature degeneration.

Answer: Some people can hold their breath for only 15 seconds; some for over 2 minutes. But holding breath beyond 7 minutes can cause brain damage. Human discs can only go so long without nutrition.

The Worst PI Lien Yet:
Be Cautious

We received this example from a good doctor in Beaumont. We reviewed the lien ‘agreement’ and found the following:

Law Firm will ONLY pay lien if:

You don’t bill med pay.
Attorney to set aside only 1/3 of the total settlement to pay ALL med bills.
However, attorney will pay only important bills first.
Medicare, hospital and emergency care gets paid first.

If your office accepts this lien, you will be running a FREE CLINIC. Either you get a new attorney for your patient, or the patient can pay cash.

This is the worst lien we have seen.

We received this kind note about the Shawn Steel Lien:

“I started my career in 1978 as a plaintiff’s medical malpractice attorney…Having researched the issue of liens, including the Civil Code, I’ve come up with various versions of liens for my chiropractor doctor clients, but Shawn’s version is easy to understand and more clear.”
