Orange County Surgeon Found Guilty Taking PI Bribes after 6-day Trial

The latest criminal conviction of the notorious Long Beach Pacific Hospital, 65-year-old orthopedic surgeon convicted for taking bribes for referring patients.

Still not known is how many surgeries were really necessary to unsuspecting patients.

Dr. David Payne of Irvine was found guilty of conspiracy, fraud and bribery. Master criminal Michael Drobot, the owner of Pacific Hospital, conspired with MD’s, DC’s to pay kickbacks in return for referring patients.

The scheme generated over $500 M for spinal surgeries. Payne received bribes from Drobot up to $15,000 for each spinal surgery. The top bribe was for Lumbar Spine with implants from one of Drobot’s companies.

The bribes were covered up by disguising payments for market services and fees based on a sham contract.

Payne when sentenced on June 2, will face up to 50 years in federal prison.

New Jersey DCs & MDs faces Federal Fraud Cause 2.6 MIL

State Farm is using Federal Law to sue doctors for what they allege is insurance fraud. This is a growing trend in the US.

State Farm is seeking to recover 2.6M claiming fraudulent billing since 2014 under New Jersey’s “personal injury protections” i.e., Med Pay.

Alleging doctors used “predetermined protocol” for all patients claiming such services were not provided or not “medically” necessary.

“Part of the “predetermined protocol” for patients with soft-tissue injuries of the neck and back consisted of hot and cold packs, manipulations, massage, mechanical traction, physical medicine and rehabilitation, and manual therapy, administered to almost every patient on almost every visit, regardless of each patient’s unique circumstances and needs, according to the complaint. “

The complaint was filed in the US District Court [Federal].
